In 2026, the 81st anniversary of the Victory over fascism in World War II is being commemorated.

In many countries around the world, including Canada, on Victory Day people pay tribute to the fallen and honour veterans — those who are still with us and those who have passed away. In Toronto, over the past decade, Victory Day has remained, for many, a symbol of unity for the Russian-speaking community of the city, preservation of historical memory, and continuity between generations.
The celebration of Victory Day 2026 in Toronto will begin on May 9 with honouring veterans of the Canadian Association of World War II Veterans from the Soviet Union at a ceremonial luncheon at the restaurant “Fantasia”. Details are available at www.victoryday.ca.

The main venue for this year’s events, taking place on May 9 and 10 (Saturday and Sunday), will be Earl Bales Park.

On May 9 at 5:00 PM, the Toronto Victory Day Organizing Committee invites the community to attend a commemorative ceremony with a wreath-laying at the Monument to All Who Perished in the Second World War. Following the ceremony, the Earl Bales Park Community Centre will host a historical exhibit featuring wartime artifacts, presented by Canadian reenactors from The Perth Regiment and members of the military history club “191st Rifle Division.”

The program will also include screenings of two Canadian films: the short dramatic film “Passage,” dedicated to the heroism of the defenders of besieged Leningrad, and the Russian-language documentary “Veterans of the Second World War.” The evening will conclude with a festive concert at the community centre.
On Sunday, May 10, Earl Bales Park will host the Immortal Regiment march. This annual procession traditionally brings together thousands of participants who walk in formation carrying portraits of their family members-war heroes along with flags, banners, and flowers.

Participants will gather at 10:00 AM in the parking area near the ski hill. At 12:00 PM, the Immortal Regiment march will proceed through the park to the Monument to All Who Perished in the Second World War, where flowers will be laid and tribute paid to those who fought against fascism.

Following the ceremony, a festive concert will begin at 1:30 PM at the park’s amphitheater, featuring performances by both adult and children’s artistic groups.

Throughout the afternoon (1:00 PM to 4:00 PM), Earl Bales Park will host a variety of community activities, including a children’s play zone, an exhibition of children’s drawings titled “Thank You to Our Grandfathers and Grandmothers for Our Victory,” a dance floor inspired by the atmosphere of traditional park brass bands, and the sale of commemorative souvenirs.

This year, hot food service will also be available for attendees, provided by the restaurant “Hollywood” ($).
